MEET DENISE MARTIN
Born in Rotorua, I was drawn to outdoor adventure and nature. I started working in Ōkere Falls as a whitewater rafting guide in 1995 and travelled the globe. I loved the exposure to many cultures and different ways of life which have been intriguing and colourful, but there is still no place I’d rather be than Ōkere Falls.
I have worked in the health industry for 25 years. In 2002 I qualified as a naturopath then medical herbalist. Living next to a subtropical native rainforest sparked my interest, so I studied the field of native New Zealand herbs and their uses both traditional and modern.
Now I share my knowledge of New Zealand’s native herbs and their applications during my manufacturing workshops. We start by identifying native herbs in the Ōkere Falls bush, learning about active phyto-chemicals, then how to manufacture top quality balms and infusions. You will take away your own piece of Ōkere Falls. Ōkere Falls is the perfect spot to spend time rejuvenating in nature. With such a great array of operators in close proximity, we are able to provide some of New Zealand’s top activities for Kiwis who have struggled with COVID-19.
